Photo of the month: Frozen Boxmoor

January's photo of the month is this picture of frozen Boxmoor taken by Steve Williams, who posted it on Twitter. It was taken during the cold snap just before Christmas when it was -15 degrees in Boxmoor. "I'm missing it now that I'm back at work," he said.

FROZEN CANAL, Blackbirds and Station moors: The icy days of winter feel like they're behind us now that we've had some March sunshine. But before they recede from our memories, here's more evidence of how beautiful Boxmoor looked in the grip of ice and the snow. Moon over Boxmoor - February photo of the month

This photo is by 'Size UK' from the Boho Boxmoor picture group on Flickr, and shows the full moon that many of us remember at the end of January. "It was taken on one of two nights when the moon was going to be at its brightest in the year," said Size UK. "It was stunning! I took this outside my house handheld." ST JOHN'S IN THE SNOW: This photo was taken by Simon from Hemel Hempstead, who goes by the name of Size_UK on the Boho Boxmoor pics group on Flickr. Here's his website: www.sizephotography.co.uk. 

The photograph is of St John's Church in Boxmoor, taken in the late afternoon and uploaded on January 6.  "I took it around 3.30pm just as it was getting dark; definitely my favourite snow shot to date," says Simon.

BOXMOOR HORSES by Nigel Coomber. It's January, so why exactly is this unseasonal picture of a foal and its mother on Boxmoor Trust land picture of the month? Because it's a warm reminder that spring will return, along with the Boxmoor ponies from their winter home, before too very long.
